How To Make A Window Or Room Seem Bigger

Design Tip - Window Shutters

Placing shutters along side a window makes the room and window seem bigger.

The eye is drawn across the whole of the wall and merges the window with the shutters making the window and room seem much larger. 

These outdoor house shutters were originally black but I painted them with a white satin paint. Painting shutters is difficult so it is easy to just buy white shutters than to paint them but these were free and about to be tossed out as they were being replaced in a home exterior remodel.

These shutters are also very light weight. Made of a plastic-type material so hanging them was a breeze just two small nails each. 

I'm always taken aback how much larger the room seems because of the shutter window trick when I enter it.
