Halloween Centerpiece - Spider and Web Candy Holder

Spider On Web - Candy Holder

Halloween Center Piece

A cool Halloween decoration made from things you probably already have around your house.

What you will need for this project:

Plastic toilet paper roll bags or other malleable stuffing
Plastic strawberry container
Potato netted bag
Four empty toilet paper rolls
Paper towel
Dollar store mini-hat
Black spray paint - 99cents at Walmart
Dollar store masking tape
Glue
Scissors
Dollar store poster paints
Taupe, beige, gray or black paint.
Black stickers
Nail polish remover
Plastic gloves
Candy Bars

I recycled the plastic bag the hold 24 rolls of toilet paper like Cottonelle or Charmin by using it as stuffing for my spider.

I scrunched up the plastic bags into a ball and taped it shut. Don't make it too tight and bunched up otherwise it will try to take in air and get larger.

I used paper towel to cover the bags and at first taped to hold the paper towel in place and then glued it shut.

I then used .99 cent black spray paint from Walmart to color the paper towel black.

This is the body of the spider.

Make the spiders legs from the empty toilet paper rolls. Put the rolls in water.

The water will open the cardboard up. Lay out and let dry.

Paint the dried paper roll with black poster paint.

When dry, fold the cardboard lengthwise.

Fold in half and glue the bottom portion together. This is one spider leg. Repeat this process for the three other spider legs.

Glue the four spider legs together.

Glue the spider's body to the spider legs.

To make the spider web use an empty potato bag. Most of them are made of a plastic type netting.

Cut the bag open along the seams and remove the label and label glue with nail polish remover.

Painted netting is shown on the left. Unpainted bag is shown on the right.

Scrunch the netting into a ball and with you hands gloved dip it into a neutral paint. Spread the paint all over the plastic netting. Keep dipping and spreading the paint until it is covered. Don't worry about any holes or cuts in the netting as it is suppose to be a spooky Halloween web. You can highlight the netting with either a darker color or lighter color for some contrast.

Here is a picture of the finished netting.

I had some dollar store miniature hats that I bought for St. Patrick's Day. I spray painted on of them black. and added a orange paper band to turn it into a miniature Halloween hat. Then I glued the hat to the spider's body.

To make the spider's face I cut two white ovals out of typing paper. Then I attached round black stickers for the pupils to the white ovals and then used white poster paint for dots in the pupils. Then I glued the eyes to the spider's body.

Ovals on white typing paper.

Cut them out.

Used black stickers for the pupils.

Added white poster paint dots to the pupils.

Used beveled scissors to cut out eyebrows. I used white paper and some paper I had painted orange with poster paint.

Glue them together off center and overlapping.

I spray painted an empty strawberry container black.

Added some Hershey's candy bars to the container. And positioned the spider and spider web on the spray painted container.

And that's it! The Halloween spider is guarding the chocolate bars!
