Halloween Spiders Made From Egg Carton

Halloween Spiders

Made from Styrofoam egg an carton

What you will need for this project:

An 18 count egg carton
Red spray paint
Dollar store poster paints - red, white, and black
Paint brushes or cotton swabs
Scissors
Wood
White paint
Water

Cut off the top of an 18 count egg carton. I used a Styrofoam one.

Spray paint the entire egg carton, both sides, with the red spray paint.

Let dry.

Cut the egg container into the 18 individual pieces.

I add a bit of water to my dollar store poster paints.

I use dollar store cotton swab for painting with the poster paints. With 350 swabs I get 700 uses. They do fall apart quickly but they are disposable, cheap, and I don't have to clean any paint brushes.

I add a little bit of water to the black poster paint, mix it in and then paint the red egg holders with the watery black paint. This adds contrast and depth as both the red and black colors are visible.

I use dollar store cotton swabs instead of paint brushes. I just throw them away after use. They do break apart quickly but with a count of 700 swabs (1400 two sides) for a dollar it's worth it to me for the convenience.

I painted the red spray painted carton pieces with watered down black poster paint. The red color shows through the gray black color and gives nice spooky contrast.

Dab white paint to make parts of the spiders eyes.

Dab black dots for spider eyes.

Red paint for angry eyebrows and angry mouths.

Now you've got a small army of egg carton Halloween spiders.

I put the spiders throughout my whitewashed wood and branches since the contrast is so cool and that there are so many different areas to put them.

Here is how to whitewash wood. Paint parts of the wood with solid white paint. Let dry.

Stir some white paint to a container of water. This will make some watery white paint. Paint the rest of the wood with the watery white paint.

Assemble the white washed wood into a container.

Add your egg carton spiders everywhere and that's it!
