Witch Hat Core Board

Witch's Hats Made From Core Board

Halloween DIY Craft

What you will need for this project:

Dollar store black core board or plain black poster board
Dollar store glitter/glue combo - red and silver
Exacto knife or scissors
Dollar store black poster paint
Pencil
Masking tape
Paint brush or dollar store cotton swabs

The black core board that I get from the dollar store is poster size. I used some scrap core board (foam board) that I had left over from another craft project.

I cut my scrap core board into two pieces. One each for the two witch's hats I'm making.

I sketched a witch's hat freehand on to the back of the core board. I used a cartoon picture I'd seen online of a witch's hat for my inspiration.

Then I used an Exacto knife to cut out my hat. Scissors will do if you don't have an exacto knife. Box cutters will work too.

I cleaned up the scrappy edges with the Exacto knife.

I used black dollar store poster paint to paint the white foam board edges black.

Dollar store poster paints.

Dollar store cotton swaps I use to paint with instead of paint brushes for small craft projects.. They are cheap and disposable and I don't have to keep washing paint brushes. They do fall apart quickly though.

Let the painted edges dry.

Then I used dollar store glitter/glue combo (the glitter is in the bottle with the glue) to paint my red band and silver buckle on the hat.

I outlined my red band area. The glitter/glue goes on like a gel but dries flat and glittery.

Then I filled in the rest of the red areas with the red glitter/glue.

I takes several hours to dry. Then I went back an filled in spotty areas.

Now to draw in the silver buckle.

I made two witch's hats and made my silver buckle different for each one.

Then I used a bit of masking tape and taped them to my bathroom mirror. You can hang these anywhere.

I unraveled some cotton balls and hung them on top of the mirror to make some Halloween cobwebs. I also put some skeleton hands on top of the mirror. I've got my witch's broom hanging on the wall too. That's another craft project I've posted on this blog.

And that's it! Quick way to make some Halloween decorations for pennies.
