12" x 12" x 12"

This DIY project cost me a whopping $3 for the black core board, red tinsel, and silver tinsel I purchased at the dollar store.

So here is what you will need to make this inexpensive project:

Dollar store - Black Core board, poster board size
Dollar store glue
Dollar store red and silver tinsel
Green Ribbon
19 Pine Cones

Pine cones, core board, ribbon, glue, tinsel, scissors.

And here are step by step written instructions or you can just watch the youtube video I made above.

Step 1 - Collect your pine cones.

Step 2 - Wash your pine cones in warm soapy water to get rid of dirt and bug.

Step 3 - Let your pine cones dry for up to two days or faster if you dry them in the sun. When pine cones are wet they close up. They open up when dry. Only use dry pine cones.

Step 4 - Cut a triangle out of your core board. My triangle/tree base was 12" x 12" x 12".

Step 5 - Prep - Layout your pine cones on the triangle before you glue them to make sure they will fit and to get the best contrast by putting mixing lighter shaded pine cones against darker shaded pine cones.

Step 6 - Now start gluing your pine cones to your triangle/tree base. I used regular old glue but using a hot glue gun if you have one is the best way. Put glue on the core board and some on the bottom of your pine cone. Then just place the pine cone on the triangle core board and let dry.

Step 7 - Take some ribbon and glue it to the back/top of your tree in a loop so that you will be able to hang your tree up on a wall or door when it is finished. Let the glue dry.

Step 8 - Now that you've glued all of your pine cones onto the core board and it's dry, it's time to decorate.I used dollar store red tinsel that has a very thin wire center and green ribbon.

I twisted red tinsel wire once around the tips of some of the pine cones and then just snipped it off so that it looks like a little red ornament atop the pine cone.

I also cut green ribbon and tie bows to the tips of some of the pine cones.

I topped off the tree with more red tinsel. I also used silver tinsel that I wove through some of the pine cones.

And that's it!

You've now got a really neat pine cone Christmas tree to hang on a wall or door!
